Regulation PFXX Handling and Storage Instructions: 1 a) Non-heat-treated (raw) pet food products shall have a section titled “Handling and 2 Storage Instructions” (as stipulated in PFXX(d)) that contains the following statements: 3 “To prevent illness from bacteria: Keep this product separate from human foods. Wash 4 hands, working and feeding surfaces, utensils (including cutting boards, preparation and 5 feeding utensils), and any other items that contact this product with hot soapy water. 6 Keep this product out of the reach of children.” Additional handling and storage 7 instruction text as determined by the manufacturer and graphics as stipulated in PFXX(c) 8 may be used. 9 b) Extruded, baked, retorted or cooked pet food products may have a section and, if 10 present, shall be titled “Handling and Storage Instructions” (as stipulated in PFXX(d)) 11 with language determined by the manufacturer. 12 c) The following graphics (and only the following graphics) may be included with the 13 handling and storage instructions section, as applicable. The graphics with 14 accompanying text shall be obtained from the AAFCO website. 15 16 17 18 19 d) The handling and storage instructions header shall be bolded with at least two points 20 separating the handling and storage instructions and other directions for use.
