AGA End Use Codes and Standards: Guiding Principles on the Issue of Natural Gas Direct-Use and Electrification in the US Energy Economy • The American Gas Association (AGA) supports national energy policies and building codes and standards that enable the direct use of natural gas in homes, businesses, industries and transportation options. • AGA believes that support for natural gas direct-use applications is a critical factor in assuring and preserving consumer choice, energy affordability, safe and reliable delivery of energy to all customer sectors and sustainability of domestic energy resources. • AGA believes that the direct-use of natural gas is critical to addressing societal priorities, including those related to reaching our nation’s energy efficiency goals and greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. • AGA believes that a fair and objective process for proposing codes and standards applied to homes, buildings, household appliances, as well as commercial and industrial equipment, is fundamental. • Therefore, to the extent that non-gas related energy industries and public institutions presume “electrification” of the U. S. energy economy as a foundation for their codes and standards activities, AGA will continue to assert the value of natural gas options and oppose “electrification” efforts that would prohibit, negatively impact, or limit consumer choice for the direct use of natural gas. 11.20.2018
